Our group retains about $30 of the fee per child for Group Committee needs. The rest goes to Scouts Canada for the registration fee. Group Committee uses it's portion to pay for investiture, and subsidize linking, events, wind-up and BP Supper in Feb.151st Springbank requires the Sections (Beavers, Cubs & Scouts) to self fund their operations themselves with fundraising. Our yearly joint fundraising (like popcorn sales) profits are split out to the Sections according to Net Sales. Any additional authorized fundraising by a Section stays in that Section, and any special fund requirements (such as Scouts jamboree fees) are subsidized by the Group Committee. During the session, dues and camp (or event) fees are charged by the Section to it's members on a break-even basis.
Beavers and Cubs meet Wednesday nights at the Springbank Middle School. The Beavers and Cubs first meetings of the year will usually be the THIRD or FOURTH Wednesday in September OR the week after Parent Orientation night. Beavers meet from 6:30-7:30 and Cubs meet from 6:30 - 8:00pm. Both meet at the Springbank Middle School .
We try to keep the 'out' in Scouting! Each year is different, but generally once a month each section has an outing - a camp, an event or a linking event (cubs/scouts/beavers together). Before Christmas, we host 'Investiture' a ceremony where new members of the Sections take their oath and receive their necker. In February, we celebrate Lord Baden Powell's birthday (Feb 22, 1857) with a Pot-Luck supper. In the Spring, we have a 'going-up ceremony, where Youth going up to the next level of Scouts are welcomed by their new peers. Different training camps also are offered to the Sections, like 'sixer training' weekend for Cubs. Community service and cub car rally's are also a staple. Scouts (and Cubs 'going up') take an overnight canoe trip in the Spring. Beavers visit local events like halloween and do an overnight camp at an approved facility. Our leaders are kept busy in preparing and excecuting the Program to achieve the goals of Scouts Canada. Regular meeting are filled with age appropriate games and other Section business.
