Description:
The Harmony West Band (formerly known as the Springbank Concert Band) is a community band made up of adult and student musicians who are interested in playing some interesting music, improving their skills and having some fun with a good group of people. We provide a non-intimidating environment in which less experienced players can learn, yet we have well-seasoned players that are continuing their musical growth as well. We play a wide variety of music: classical, folk, show tunes, marches and Rock 'n Roll. The band plays at a grade 3 level.
The band rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00. All rehearsals are held in the band room at Rundle College, which is located on 17th Avenue just west of the Westside Recreational Centre which is on the corner of 17th Ave and 69th Street SW.
We are actively seeking new recruits in all sections. Band members pay fees which cover the salary of the band director, the purchase of all music and room rental.
Band members supply their own instruments. Most percussion instruments are supplied by the band but members will likely need some percussion gear for home practice.
We play an average of 3 performances per year. We have performed at the Westview Retirement Home, Westside recreational Centre, Lakeview Fun Days, the Springbank Fall Fair, the Jack Singer Hall and Jubilee Auditorium for the annual Springbank Schools concerts, the Bragg Creek Seniors Club and more venues.
Dust off that instrument and come join us. The 2008-2009 season starts on Thursday, September 18th. Yearly fees are $288 (September 18 - May 31). We traditionally end with a gig and a party the 1st week of June.
