OUTDOOR RINK

(As Of Monday, March 12, 2012)
Respect For Others & For SPFAS Facilities
SPFAS places a very high priority on keeping the Brawn Family Foundation Fieldhouse and the Outdoor Rink as well maintained facilities that are safe for those who come to use them. Accordingly, the following principles and conduct items are outlined for those who will be skating at the Outdoor Rink:
- Dress warm, wear helmets and be safe when skating on the Outdoor Rink. Outdoor Rink skaters under 18 years of age are required to wear helmets while they are on the ice.
- Respect the Public Skating times. Respect fellow skaters. Respect the Outdoor Rink and Fieldhouse facilities and keep them clean. Absolutely no bullying or intimidating of other skaters. Offenders will be removed from the Outdoor Rink and Fieldhouse.
- No smoking or alcohol consumption is allowed under any circumstances in the Outdoor Rink or the Fieldhouse. The SPFAS premises, including the Outdoor Rink and Fieldhouse, are monitored by SPFAS Staff and patrolled by the RCMP, as well as by surveillance cameras on site. Offenders will be removed from the Outdoor Rink and Fieldhouse.
- SPFAS will at times during the day complete reconditioning floods of the Outdoor Rink. When reconditioning floods occur, be respectful of the SPFAS Staff, stay off of the ice as directed and only return to the ice when permitted to do so.
- Please go to the springbank.ab.ca website regularly to obtain Outdoor Rink availability and opening updates, as well as daily operating hours.
- Public Skating sessions are scheduled for every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, as well as every Sunday from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. No hockey sticks are pucks will be allowed on the Outdoor Rink during these times.
- If the temperatures are extremely cold (i.e. colder than -20C), SPFAS may close the Outdoor Rink in order to complete additional floodings to make the existing ice layer even thicker, as well as to protect individuals from weather conditions.
- The Outdoor Rink may also be closed if temperatures are exceptionally warm for any length of time, particularly to ensure that the natural ice surface is safe to skate on.
- Remember to take what you brought home with you – try not to leave jackets, mittens, toques and equipment behind. Do your best to respect SPFAS facilities and leave the Outdoor Rink and the Fieldhouse for other users in the same or better condition than when you arrived by using waste collection and recycle bins.
HAVE FUN, SHARE THE OUTDOOR RINK AND FIELDHOUSE & BE SAFE!
Additional Information About The Brawn Family Foundation Fieldhouse
The Brawn Family Foundation Fieldhouse is available to skaters and shinny players. The Change Room that is located on the west side of the building will serve as a venue where individuals can change into and out of their skates. This Change Room has a rubber flooring surface so individuals can walk around it while wearing their skates. The Change Room also has a potable water supply and washroom fixtures (toilets, urinals and sinks) that will be accessible to the skaters. The showers located in the Change Room will not be available. This venue includes electricity and heat as well, so skaters will be able to use it to warm up both during the days and in the evenings when the Outdoor Rink is open. Skaters will be able to access the Outdoor Rink from the Fieldhouse by exiting the west door and then walking on rubber mats to get to the natural ice surface. This new facility is expected to enhance the skating experience substantially for Outdoor Rink users, especially with respect to having a warm and sheltered place to change in and out of skating equipment and with regards to providing a potable water supply as well as washroom facilities.
Security & Safety
A new comprehensive video surveillance camera system has been installed in the Outdoor Rink and adjacent areas. This new equipment has been added in conjunction with the completion of an extensive security camera installation capital project. The new security cameras will assist SPFAS and users of the Outdoor Rink as a tool that will provide for effective monitoring of activity and conduct at this venue, as well as by the Brawn Family Foundation Fieldhouse. While SPFAS staff members monitor activity on the Outdoor Rink and in the Fieldhouse at various intervals, this security systems provides ongoing video monitoring capabilities. SPFAS will monitor the Outdoor Rink and the Fieldhouse to deter and address acts of bullying, vandalism and other inappropriate conduct (including smoking and liquor consumption). Users of the Fieldhouse and Outdoor Rink are welcome to seek assistance from SPFAS (please see the contact information below) to address activities that are not permitted.
